Lake Kathrine Waterfall
This is a plein air painting I did this week. We went to Lake Kathrine in Palos Heights. It's still not spring but it was the warmest painting day so far this year. This painting is a small 6" x 6" pastel.

Ok Sue or Suzy. My painting buddy has challenged me to a Food War. Well, more accurately a Healthy Food War. It was inspired by a Donut War that a couple of other artists engaged in, but I knew if I were going to be buying donuts to use a models for a painting, I would end up eating all of them afterward so we compromised on a Healthy Food War. Here is my answer to her challenge. This is my dinner from the other day. It is Mango-Lime Salmon with Butternut Squash and Cranberries. Of course that name is much too long for a painting so it is just called Dinner. It is 5" x 7" pastel on board.
My painting buddy Sue Flanagan and I painted at Cherry Hill in the Palos Forest Preserves this week. It's still not spring. The colors are still mostly brown and gray. The reason we chose Cherry Hill at this time of year is because in the summer you can't even see the pond. The weeds and grass grow so tall, it obscures the view. In fact, I never knew there was a pond here despite the fact that I have driven past the location for years. I also tried painting smaller this time. This painting is a 6" x 6" pastel. I figured I had a better chance of finishing a smaller one than my usual 9" x 12" one. It is hard to keep painting when you can't feel your fingers any more. I did finish this one on site.
Here is the scene I was attempting to paint and a picture of my painting setup.
