Searching for Spring
This is the first Plein Air painting I have done in a couple of months. My excuse is I have been travelling. Now my painting buddy Sue Flanagan and I are back to our once a week painting day outside. Unfortunately it was still pretty cold and it wasn't long before I couldn't feel my fingers, so I did finish this painting back at home. Also, it isn't very pretty outside yet, even though it is officially spring. But this was painted at the Crabtree Nature Center and I thought it was still an interesting scene with the layers of trees in the background. They had also done a controlled burn in the field and that made some interesting contrasts. We were at Crabtree because I was picking up some paintings that had been exhibited there for the last two months, and Sue was dropping off some of her paintings that are to be exhibited there. I find that I still need to prop up a painting that I have just finished so that I can look at it when I walk past it for a few days or even a week. Sometimes it just needs a tweak or two before I feel it is finished. Sue seems to post her paintings as soon as she gets home, but I just can't bring myself to do that. It is probably insecurity, and maybe I will get over that.
